The legacy of Augustus was influential to Rome as it created many years of prosperity and peace for the Roman empire. During his reign, Augustus was able to expand his empire by gaining Egypt, Northern Spain, and parts of central Europe. Augustus made great progress within Rome as well, as he created repaired and started many public works projects that would change the empire such as restoration of roads, buildings and sewers. Augustus adding three new aqueducts to improve bring water to Rome. These acts would later be the result of Augustus famous quote,"I found Rome a city of bricks, and left it a city of marble". In total Augustus spent/donated about one hundred million sestereces which were Roman coins. He is credited with building/restoring 82 temples. We still honor Augustus as the wise and at the same time ruthless leader he was becoming a model ruler for rulers following him and honor him with the month August which was named after him. Augustus left the legacy of being the Emperor who changed Rome for the better. His buildings and restorations that were previously mentioned allowed Rome to become a more united and efficient empire.
